Electrical Certification

Expo Guys has been appointed as the exclusive supplier for temporary electrical installations for the expo. Expo Guys is the only contractor that is authorized to connect any circuit, other than a standard 16A, 240v, single phase socket to the Sun Arena infrastructure.

A qualified contractor may install electrical circuits to a stand, but such contractor is not allowed to connect to the Sun Arena grid. This can only be done by Expo Guys and only once a Certificate of Compliance has been issued by the client’s contractor. Certificates of Compliance (COC) must be handed in at the Organisers Office no later than 17H00 on 23 May 2019. (see Form No. 2).

All electrical installations must comply with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (85 of 1983) as amended by the Occupational Health and Safety Act (181 of 1983) and the Labour Relations Act (66 of 1995).

Any electrical installation must comply with the following:

  • Each installation should be effectively bonded to earth.
  • No Twinflex is permitted.
  • Wiring should be three core, twin and earth, not less than 1.5mm cross sectional and be PVC, electro-metric or other plastic sheathing.
  • Joints may not be made except where connecting into a circuit and must be insulated.
  • Screwed connectors must be used and totally encased in insulated enclosures.
  • All wiring must be effectively protected and fixed to prevent damage and risk of injury.
  • All electrical fittings and equipment must be SABS approved. E.g. Transformers, distribution boards, and plugs etc.
  • A certificate of Compliance is to be issued for the electrical installation.
